Here is a BONUS! Below are Sam Silverstein’s Four Steps to Stop Procrastination so You Can Get More Done.
We all procrastinate at some point in time. We have deadlines and yet we wait to the last minute to finish a project. We want to be done by Friday but the task lingers on to the next week. It seems like sometimes the only time we get verything done by a specific deadline is when we are leaving on vacation.
We procrastinate and put off the inevitable even when we know we should start and finish the job. Here are Sam Silverstein’s four steps that will help you eliminate procrastination in your personal and professional life.
1. Clearly Define What Needs To Be Done
When you have a clear definition of what needs to be accomplished it makes it easier to begin the project. Many times we put off starting a project because we do not have a full understanding of the scope of the project or the expectations of what we need to produce. The more specific you can be in describing what needs to be done the less likely you will be in making excuses for not beginning the project. The same concept applies when delegating a task to a team member. Be sure to clearly define the expectations.
2. Know WHY You Are Doing Something
Everything comes down to “why.” It’s the “why” that drives your actions and determines the decisions we all make. The more important the “why” the more likely we are to want to begin the project. Take the time to think about why you are doing something, what completing the project means to you and exactly what you stand to gain when you finish. This information will motivate you to move forward.
3. Review the Consequences of Lack of Performance
What happens if you don’t meet you deadline or you put the project off so long it is impossible to have enough time to do a great job? If the consequences are great enough, chances are you will want to get started sooner. The greater the consequences of failure the higher the likelihood that you will push yourself to move forward.
4. Reward Yourself For Meeting or Exceeding Deadlines
Hey, we all like a present from time to time. Set up check-points and deadlines for your projects. Give yourself small rewards each time you meet a check-point and then something larger when you hit your overall deadline. Some projects can seem overwhelming but when you break them into smaller, achievable elements you will feel comfortable beginning and ultimately finishing the project.
Eliminating procrastinating is a trait of highly accountable people and leads to greater results in your personal life and higher productivity in your professional life. Great leaders are accountable leaders and eliminate procrastination.

How Does Accountability Impact the Success of Your Business?
How does accountability make a positive impact on the success of your business? Take a look at the 4 top distinguishing factors of business owners who use accountability to get results.
Top Distinguishing Factors of Business Owners Who Use Accountability
- Taking full responsibility for action and non-action
- Organized, productive and efficient in time management and task completion
- Accept full responsibility for their actions or non-actions in life and in business
- They understand that nothing comes without discipline and diligence – they never quit.
Highly motivated.
Procrastination is at fault for many business failures, and guess who’s responsible for procrastination? Yep, you guessed it, you and only you. Understand how to use accountability to build success by taking full accountability for your action and non-action.
Learn what drives your motivation to succeed and exploit it. Maybe you want to retire by age 50, pay for your children’s education without going into debt, or pay off your mortgage so you can put more money toward your retirement fund. Whatever the reasons are that drive your motivation, stay connected to them so you can leverage that motivation to avoid procrastination, and keep going until you succeed.
Organized, productive and efficient. Every successful entrepreneur understands that organized and efficient productivity is an essential part of leveraging time and energy. You cannot build a business wasting time or spinning your wheels. You have to learn how to do the most in the least amount of time – and with the least amount of energy. When you integrate accountability into everything you do, there is no finger to point at anyone, but yourself. Taking that responsibility will naturally drive you to put your best efforts forward and keep you organized, productive and efficient.
If you’re truly a procrastinator at heart, you may have to bribe yourself with a reward to get things done. For example, don’t allow yourself to go to lunch until you complete three of the five tasks on your To-Do List. Another example may be to allow yourself to take a three day weekend if you met your goal(s) for the month.
Alternatively, you may have to implement “retraining” yourself for unproductive behavior. For example, say you procrastinated or wasted time and didn’t accomplish your goals for the day, week, or month. To retrain your mind to think in an efficient manner, create a competition with yourself to accomplish a task faster than you have in the past. Use a stopwatch or timer to keep track of your time. The next time you have to do that task, try to beat your old record. Do that each time until you refine the process enough to become highly efficient. Don’t sacrifice quality for doing it faster. You can become quicker and still maintain quality.
Accept full responsibility.
Accountability and wealth go hand-in-hand! When you learn how to use accountability to build success, you’ll begin to see just how much power you have in creating your own reality. Set a bit more than realistic goals, yet you want to stretch yourself a little. Say you need to net $4,000 each month for personal expenses and an additional $3,000 for business overhead? If you need to net a total of $7,000 per month, stretch yourself and shoot for a minimum of $10,000 in sales each month.
Throughout the workday, remind yourself that you are the only one responsible for your reality and take full responsibility for your action or non-action. If you do not meet our goals for the month, don’t beat yourself up. Make a list of the actions you took or didn’t take and identify where you can make improvements. Use the experience to learn how to refine your actions for better results next time, and use it to set new goals.
Discipline and diligence. Accountability is a major key to improving discipline and diligence and with that comes improved results. When you understand that the “buck stops here,” accountability suddenly provides a very clear picture that discipline and diligence will produce results. Never, ever quit until you succeed.
It’s up to you to take the actions required to achieve your goals. Successful business owners are disciplined for a reason – it’s because their diligence produces results. You must consistently become your own motivator and cheerleader, although it can be challenging at times to be so.
The truth is for most, when left to our own devices we let too many distractions keep us from the activities we know we need to do and yet don’t do them for whatever it is that’s stopping us. These groups (or coaching) will provide you with support when you need to push through fear or doubt and take action to get the results you desire.
Joining a mastermind or accountability group (or coaching) is vital to your success. As a member of one of a mastermind or accountability group (or coaching client) you will be surrounded by like-minded individual(s) who can hold you accountable for your actions or non-actions. To help you with guidelines of various groups, go to http://www.accountabilitycoach.com/coaching-store/inner-circle-store/ and review some ideas to help you get started. You will always need help in evolving and improving your life and business, and accountability is the only way to achieve your goals.

Use Accountability to Build and Increase Your Overall Success
Learning how to use accountability to build success for your business is an effective way to build a better business. What exactly is accountability in business? Accountability is taking full responsibility for your actions or non-actions in life and in business. Regardless of the money invested or personal passion for the business, if you don’t hold yourself accountable for the success of your business, there’s only a slim chance you will ever reach the level of success you have in mind.
While there are several components to building a successful business, many entrepreneurs fail to realize that accountability is the driving force behind success or failure. It is essentially a “no-excuses” approach to everything business. Ask any successful business owner and they’ll confirm the only reason things happened was because they understand they were the only person who could make or break the business.

Live Life with No Regrets…
In the September 2011 issue of Inside Tennis, Bill Simons did an article on Maria Sharapova.
A question asked of Maria was, “Could you put into words the feeling you get at that moment of triumph when you win a big tournament, that ecstasy? What floods through you at that moment?” Maria responded by saying, “I’m getting goose bumps. It’s a special moment, because you’ve been practicing, and when you’re young it’s what you dream of, what you see on TV, the big trophies you dram of… The first thing that comes to mind are the days that were just so hard and you had to push through them…and it feels so good, because you fought. You never knew ifyou were going to have the chance to hold that trophy… [And] you never want to have that feeling of regret, like you had so many choices and you were never sure that this was the one you wanted to follow. It’s an incredible feeling.”
I agree, you want to try living your life with no regrets. That is how I have tried to live most of my life and why I felt compelled to write a book called, Live Life with No Regrets. What changes might you make to begin to live your life with no regrets from this day forward?

How to Apply Accountability In Your Life to Increase Overall Success
The #1 Reason People Don’t Get What They Want in Life is Lack of Accountability.
Wouldn’t it be great if our good intentions worked the way we think they should? There’s often a wide gap between our intentions and our actually doing what is required. Unfortunately, good intentions don’t magically lead to good results. That is just the truth! Accountability Coaching provides you with no-nonsense encouragement to help you stay focused on the activities required to achieve your goals so you can ultimately have an even better quality of life – a life others only dream about.
Left to our own devices most people don’t do all the things they know they should do to get to where they want to ultimately be. You probably have experienced this just like I have in some area of your life. Unfortunately, our good intentions don’t always control our actions. Sometimes we do take action on our good intentions, but in short a matter of time, many of us find we often start to slip and revert back to our old ways. Having someone in your life that helps you follow through with your good intentions by holding you accountable, will in the end, turn those intentions into the results you desire.
We all benefit from some degree of accountability. Left to our own devices we just don’t do what we know we should do – day after day. That’s the bottom line.

Respect and Accountability Matter
In Bill Simons’ article called Serena’s Storm (Oct. 2011 issue of Inside Tennis), he wrote, “Serena doesn’t understand the importance of accountability. She just won’t own her actions, let alone reflect on them.” Then he goes on to write, “Will she ever learn? For obviously, no matter who you are – star or bum, millionaire or pauper – respect and accountability matter.”
Even if you aren’t a tennis fan and aren’t familiar with Serena’s notable behavioral outbreaks, Bill is right in that respect and accountability do matter if you want to have the kind of success you truly desire.
