Being accountable to your agreements
There have been two recent situations where agreements were made with people who then changed the agreement after everything was agreed to. In one situation, the agreement changed due to unknown situations that arose on their part. It still is important, I think, to be a person of your word and to keep your end of the agreement. It isn’t always easy to do this and sometimes the agreement may totally fall apart because it isn’t possible to keep your side of the agreement due to the changes that occurred.
In the second situation, I felt like it was a ‘bait and switch.’ I felt as though I agreed to something that they knew was going to change once they got to a certain point in the agreement. In this case, we couldn’t continue with what we agreed to do because they totally changed what they originally agreed to do and when we didn’t agree to the new terms, they cancelled the agreement. It makes you wonder if enough people agree to new terms and continue with less than what they originally agreed to because of the current economic times or if people are more like me and not willing to let others take advantage of us during these times. There is no excuse for cheating and lying, no matter what the current economic times are.
There are times though when things do change due to unforeseen situations. If at all possible, I like to think we do our best and are accountable for our actions when enter into any agreement, even though it may be difficult at times. I want to feel like I did what I felt was right and I think most people are honest and don’t go into any agreement thinking that they will change things once all is agreed to.
Eliminate No Longer Acceptable Things from Your Life
Many of us say we’re going to make changes to eliminate the things we don‘t like about our life, but few us actually commit to improving the quality of our life. We stay in a job we don’t like and in a relationship that does not serve us, and blame our circumstances on the “hand” we’ve been dealt in life. If you have ever felt like this – it’s time to get a does of reality. Whether you’re sick of your financial situation, your health or destructive relationships, you have the power to eliminate the “no longer acceptables” in your life and create the life you want and deserve.
Give up the excuses because they are just plain cop-outs. Creating the life you want simply begins with a choice – you choose to eliminate the “no longer acceptables” in your life. Changing your life circumstances is that easy. You choose your desired reality instead of your current reality, and commit to doing whatever it takes in order to create it.
Your life can change the very instant you change your thoughts – right here, right now.
Grab a pen and a piece of paper. Make a list of 10 things you want to change in your life. Your list can consist of anything you are unhappy with or downright sick of.
Eliminating those things you find yourself being most unhappy with will allow so much more peace and emotional space. You will feel like a new person when you finally eliminate the things that have been holding you back from what you really want.

The “I’m on vacation mentality” – No Longer Acceptable Behavior
Have you ever heard someone say that they will eat the desert or the fried food or something they know if not healthy because they are on vacation? Have you ever said this to yourself? I call this the “I’m on vacation mentality.” We all have a choice and you can choose to eat well if you make a conscious effort to do so. When you are away at a business function, you can choose to eat well. You don’t have to get sucked into eating poorly just because others do or they don’t have the healthy food out for you to eat. Take food that is healthier with you and eat that. If you have ever participated in this mentality, you can choose to make this a no longer acceptable behavior.
This same mentality or behavior might apply to exercise. Some people use the excuse that they don’t have time to exercise when they are at a business function. Again this comes down to making a choice to exercise or not. You can get up earlier, exercise through lunch, after the meeting (before dinner), etc. Maybe your exercise isn’t as long as you would typically like it to be or what you are used to, and that is okay. Choosing to exercise a portion of what you would like is better than nothing at all. The benefit of exercise is huge and affects many areas, even if you do it for 15 minutes, 20 minutes, or 30 minutes. Is this something that might be a no longer acceptable for you?

Focus on what you can control and not what you can’t control!- Focus on high pay-off activities!
I am really sick and tired of people continually telling me what the market did today. The market is up x today and the market is down x today. If people would just shut-up and stay focused on their highest pay-off activities, they would be so much more successful at achieving their goals than wasting time watching what the market did today and then talking about it to everyone. You can’t control the market – maybe that is a news flash to some! Even if you do care about what the market did and does – it does affect all of us – you still can’t control it so why continue to waste time thinking about it, talking about it, and worrying about it? Focus on what you can control. You can control your actions. Focus on the activities that produce results in your life.
It may be harder for some to do business development but there are still people out there who need what you do. It may take a little longer or be a bit harder to find the ‘right’ people who want what you provide, but they are out there. When you focus on finding these people, you will find them. They are out there. Quit wasting valuable time moaning about what you can’t control and get your butt in gear and focus on those high pay-off activities that you can control. You will be so far ahead of the rest who are bitching and moaning about what they can’t control. Nobody can control the markets – NOBODY! Focus on you and the ‘right’ activities, including high pay-off activities, which produce the results you want and you will be successful.
Excuses Don’t Count: Results Rule!
As you may or may not know, my motto is Excuses Don’t Count unless you’re dead. Now I know this sounds harsh but excuses are just that – excuses. They don’t serve anyone and it doesn’t matter what your excuses are. You either did or didn’t do something – just that plain and simple. I love to read Prevention Magazine. Like many busy people, I pile up my monthly magazines and read them when I travel. I happened to be recently traveling to Peru so I took all my Prevention Magazines I had been piling up with me. In the July 2008 issue, there was a great short article under Who We Admire. There are five ladies in a photo who all have t-shirts on with a circle and a line crossing through the word Excuses – basically meaning No Excuses. I love it! The article is about five ladies who just celebrated their 30th year of walking together. They walk every single day at 6:30am, rain or shine, and have logged an estimated 25,000 miles. What an inspirational story and we should admire these five ladies. No Excuses!

Excuses are just plain cop-outs!
While some people will live their entire life believing they are bound by their current circumstances, it does not have to be that way for you. There is no written law that says you have to live in fear, unhappiness or depression – in fact, it’s quite the opposite. We are created with unlimited potential, but can be falsely led to believe that we are not good enough to have what we really want. Whether you were told you deserved exactly what you got, or picked up bad habits that sabotaged your success – none of that matters. Your life can change the very instant you change your thoughts – right here, right now.
Eliminating those things you find yourself being most unhappy with will allow so much more peace and emotional space. You will feel like a new person when you finally eliminate the things and excuses that have been holding you back from what you really want.
