We tend to begin a new mission with the best of intentions and expectations; however, it’s easy to fall off the wagon way too quickly, as you might have experienced before. Implement 1, 3 or all 10 ideas to help you stick to your goals and accelerate your results, so you can enjoy having your ideal business and ideal life.
“A clear vision, backed by definite plans, gives you a tremendous feeling of confidence and personal power.”
– Brian Tracy
Let’s explore ten ways to help you stick to your goals, so you can increase, and possibly accelerate, your business success to your next level.
- Imagine Yourself Accomplishing it.
Big goals can seem irresistible, particularly if they lead to fundamental lifestyle changes. There’s a plus aspect, though: You can be sure you’ll feel somewhat different, in a positive way, when you accomplish them. Whenever your enthusiasm wanes, imagine how accomplished you’ll feel when you reach the finish line. Visualize yourself succeeding. What does it feel like, sound like, and look like? Create a game plan for you to get the outcome you envisioned.

- Evaluate Now Against Later.
You can be persuaded to skip an early morning workout instead of sleeping in, or dig into the chips and dip when you know you need to eat a healthy meal. When you depend on pure determination to do or not make something, attempt to contemplate how much long-term satisfaction you’ll get out of it. Compare the success you’ve imagined, to the one you’ve achieved and see how great you’ve done and how much progress you have made.
- Build Accountability.
Talk with a friend or peer about what you need to do to achieve your goals, then set a deadline and document your progress using a simple spreadsheet for your key metrics. For many people, it’s crucial to feel accountable to somebody other than yourself and you can build the same motivation through talking about your goals with others. If you need to eat healthier, create a better eating challenge with friends at work, for example. Want to do more prospecting calls to increase revenue? Set weekly accountability call goals with a peer or group of peers.
- Break it Down into Manageable Pieces.
No matter what you need to achieve, it can be broken down into minor pieces. Rather than mustering the motivation to work out, push yourself to get up and put on your exercise clothes. Instead of tidying up the house, pick up a few misplaced items. Once you’ve begun moving in the right path, it’s much simpler to keep going, making it more likely that you’ll finish the chore.
- Take a Day Off.
It may be counterintuitive, but you don’t have to work every day of the week. The dread of doing something risky and failing can be sufficient to deter us from even beginning. If you’ve got something challenging to get done, know that you can give yourself a periodic get-out-of-jail-free card. A cheat day or cheat meal can be therapeutic and give you the energy and focus you need to keep moving as long as you simply distinguish the start and end and stick to those parameters. Recharging our batteries to help us be at 100% capacity is very important.
- Take Your Brain Off It.
Nike has a slogan that says: “Just Do It.” This can be easier said than done at times. Still, there are many beneficial actions you do each day without even speculating about them, whether that’s opting for whole wheat over white bread, taking the stairs over the elevator, or wearing sunscreen when going outside. Rather than contemplating your goal and thinking is it something extra you have to put into your day, deem it a crucial part of your lifestyle and not optional. And know that when you do something consistently, it’ll come to be a habit far sooner than if you do it sporadically.
- Envelop Yourself with Success.
The company we keep can have an enormous benefit or consequence on how we feel and spend our time. If you want to attain something, surround yourself with people struggling toward greater success or those who have achieved more than you. Use their attainments as your morale, and let the positive vibes and motivation sink in to inspire you.
- Look Back.
It can be easy to become tired after being immersed in a particular project or projects for an extended period of time. Take a minute when you’re feeling down, to glance back at how far you’ve come and all that you have accomplished so far. Make notes of your accomplishments and achievements (no matter how big or small), and if possible, snap a few pictures to document your successes. You’ll be grateful when you can look back and recall precisely how you looked or felt then and how you feel about the progress you have made and will continue to make. It’s about progress and not perfection.
- Get Ready for Success.
Numerous research shows that the brain has patience, endurance, and even tolerance, which compels it to eliminate any chances of slip-ups. So instead of trusting the future you to do the right activities to increase your success, make challenging options easier by getting ready for them when you’re already feeling inspired. For instance, schedule your workouts or dinners in your calendar rather than just wishing you’ll make the best choices after a difficult day at the office.
- Know that You Can Do It.
Research has also discovered that by believing that you have the foresight and self-control to attain your goals, you have a higher probability to actually do just that. Therefore, whenever you feel you can’t resist those disempowering thoughts, recall that when you think you can, then you can. If you think you can’t, you won’t.
Wherever you are in your life, you are exactly where you are because of your beliefs. When you speak to yourself what do you say – words of encouragement or words of criticism? You may not realize it, but your self-talk is creating your belief system. That belief system is either helping you achieve more or keeping you bound where you currently are. To get to where you want to go and be who you want to be, you must understand that your beliefs are the powerhouse of creation. Who you are, as well as who you will become, is created by your beliefs.
