Our beliefs are stronger than we often think. So much stronger. They are so strong in fact, that they often can have very physical effects on us. You might have noticed it too ─ you wake up feeling terrible, and just like that, the rest of the day just feels draining. Flip that around and wake up on the right side of the bed, and things just seem to go smoothly.
The same goes with our beliefs. Have positive beliefs that uplift and empower you, and you’d feel empowered and driven. Have negative beliefs or negative thoughts, and you’d be limited in what you can achieve.
Sometimes though, it’s practically impossible to not have some of these limiting beliefs (conscious or unconscious). Sometimes they just come. Maybe it’s a result of the social circles we find ourselves in. Maybe it’s the effect of hearing how other people have failed over and over again at achieving their goals. Whatever the reason, these negative thoughts often come and create limiting beliefs in our lives.
It’s up to us to do our best to overcome these limiting beliefs and in so doing, improve our lives. Need some help doing that? We’ve got you covered. Read on to review four steps you can take to overcome your limiting beliefs, so you can more quickly achieve your goals.
With that said, let’s get to it.
4 Steps to Take in Overcoming Your Limiting Beliefs
- Identify Limiting Beliefs
This is the very first step in overcoming your limiting beliefs and improving your life.
You see, most of these negative beliefs have a way of disguising themselves as facts. As truths. We tend to think, “oh I can’t do this, it’s impossible. It’s not that I don’t have enough confidence in myself, it’s just that I know myself. I just can’t do it.”
That right there is a limiting belief. But we often don’t see it that way. We see it as just facts. In there lies the first barrier we need to break. There lies the first step in overcoming our limiting beliefs. Start by identifying these limiting beliefs for what they are day to day. Identify these limiting beliefs and you are one step to overcoming them. The “little voice” in our head can be holding you back from greatness.
- Motivate Yourself
Now that you have been able to identify your limiting beliefs, the next thing to do is to motivate yourself.
The fact is, most of our limiting beliefs are things we have internalized for so long, they have become second nature. We have come to truly believe we are not good enough for the job. We have come to believe we are not up to the task. We have come to believe we wouldn’t succeed at the task. We believe people will think we are being too pushy or too salesy. These effects are long term negative effects. Even after identifying them and the negativity they bring, they don’t just disappear with the snap of a finger, even though we wish this could happen.
It’s left to you to make that happen. And how would you or anybody else for that matter make this happen? Simple. By keeping yourself motivated!
I know this sounds cliche, but believe me when I say, it works. Tell yourself you are good enough. Tell you’ve got what it takes. Tell yourself that people need you and your products and services. Tell yourself people will be glad you called them. Tell yourself your clients will be eager to introduce you to everyone they know. Get yourself challenging those negative thoughts and pushing the boundaries that you have been constrained in for all this time.
- Listen to Success Stories
Sometimes, self-motivation is not enough to break us out of these limiting beliefs we have internalized for so long. In cases like this, this is where we need motivation from others.
Look for people who have gone through what you are going through at the moment. The truth is, nothing is new under the sun anymore. Whatever negative thoughts are limiting you from achieving your goals right now, chances are many, many more people have faced them also. And out of this multitude, chances are a sizable amount of people have succeeded. Look for these people and listen to their success stories. Let their stories motivate you. Tell yourself if they can succeed at it, so can you. Change the record playing in your head and achieve more than you thought possible.
If you are truly going to enjoy the effects of this, you would need one important character ─ to trust people.
And why is this important? Well, for one, you need to trust that what people are saying is true. You need to trust that they aren’t lying about their progress. That they have truly gone through what you are going through, and most importantly, that you can too.
- Start Small
Now that you are feeling motivated, there is just one more thing to do ─ start small. Now you know that these limiting beliefs are just that ─ beliefs that limit you from achieving your true potential. What is left for you to do is remove those limiters. Start achieving your goals and living your best life. Start living the life these beliefs prevented you from living all this while.
When doing this though, you want to start small. You don’t want to take too much on and risk losing some steam. Instead, start small. Start with small attempts to break your limits and build your confidence from there. Win in the little things first, and then start setting your eyes on greater sites.
Do this, and you will find that those limiting beliefs are already getting broken. So start small, start right, and start achieving your ideal business and ideal life. If you want help, reach out to me today to schedule your complimentary consultation.
