The phenomena of procrastination is what separates outstanding performance from mediocre performance in a world in which no excuses can lead to success. A business associate of mine recently conducted a series of interviews with 15 of their most successful clients. In answer to the question, “If you knew then what you know now, what would you have done differently,” she encountered a recurring theme, which can be paraphrased as follows:
“Life happens … and if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn’t have used it as an excuse not to do the work. When I finally stopped using everything that normally occurs in life and business as an excuse not to do the work, my results dramatically improved … my life dramatically improved … and the work got easier.”
We all have challenges we have to deal with on a professional and personal level. “Life happens” and “Life gets in the way” at certain times in all of our lives. You have to deal with life issues, with no excuses, and continue to stay focused on what is truly important to us and not stop the forward momentum that you have worked so hard to build. It is harder, sure, but you will persevere anyway, so why not make the adjustment to deal with “life issues,” such as procrastination, sooner rather than later or not at all.
