9 Benefits of a Winning Attitude…and How to Get One

November 3, 2022 by Anne Bachrach Leave a Comment

It’s all about the attitude.  A winning attitude is a positive mental state that assumes the best will happen.  How does this help in the business world?  A person with a positive outlook believes that success will be accomplished.  How does this help in business?  Turns out it will help in many different areas of work.

The advantages of a winning attitude are far-reaching, both personally and professionally.

  1. You Can Find Solutions. With a winning attitude, you don’t panic when things go wrong.  This leads you to make rational and informed decisions.  You know that everything will work out which results in a much calmer point of view, allowing you to remain unbiased as you assess the situation.  Events that you used to think of as problems now turn into opportunities.
  2. You are Motivated. A person with a positive attitude is motivated—motivated to succeed at work, to accomplish goals, and achieve results.  When you believe that you are able to complete a task, you are not easily swayed by discouraging behavior from others or from yourself.
  3. You are Optimistic. A winning attitude can help you in many situations at work.  You don’t give up easily which means that challenges and the possibility of failure don’t daunt you.  This outlook enables you to find the opportunities in failures and not repeat the same mistakes.  Negative comments, thoughts, or people do not affect you.
  4. You Believe in You. When you believe in your own abilities and skills, you can accomplish far more than if you are down on yourself.  You know that you alone can get the results you want.  An improved self-esteem can benefit you both at home and at work.
  5. It Motivates Those Around You. A winning attitude is contagious.  When you are enthusiastic about your business, those who work with and for you, will be also.  They will choose to be around you because of your winning attitude.
  6. You Have Less Stress. Work situations can bring on high levels of stress, especially when you are feeling overwhelmed with a heavy workload.  Remaining positive helps to reduce the amount of stress you feel.   This is a step into a greater level of health, meaning more energy and a higher level of productivity.
  7. You are More Creative. When you eliminate the negative thoughts, you allow yourself to be open to creative thinking.  The solutions that you are able to formulate for problems come easier as you clear your mind, and you are able to think outside of the box (so to speak).
  8. You Aim Higher. A positive mind sets higher expectations, allowing you to achieve more.  If your expectations are low, your performance will be lower.  Challenge yourself to be your best all the time and positive thinking will get you there.  Focus on your progress toward your goals just as much as the end result.
  9. You Don’t Make Excuses. It is easy to play the blame game when something goes wrong.  When you are positive, you know that issues will arise or mistakes will happen, but you will be able to overcome them easier than you might have before.

Practice Positivity

Not everyone can be positive all the time, but small steps in your behavior will help you to a path to positivity.  Like all things, it does take a certain amount of commitment and practice.  You can choose to be happy by erasing negative thoughts that creep into your mind.  The same goes for negative people—you can choose to limit your time with them.

When faced with challenges in your business, try to find the insight and lessons learned.  This practice will help you in finding the positive in every situation, and with time, those challenges become less of a burden to you.

Affirmation

A winning attitude can be developed by affirmation.  Read inspiring quotes to motivate you.   You can also employ visualization techniques to counter any negative thoughts that enter your mind.   Meditation or taking a walk are two techniques to clear your mind, focus, and reset your intentions.  Start small in your positive thinking and repeat until it becomes second nature.  If you need motivation to remain positive, there are numerous websites and social media pages that will help in this daily practice.

The choice is yours to be positive or not.  A winning attitude leads to success.  This type of attitude affects not only the way you view situations but affects your environment.

Testimonials

I’ve sometimes thought of myself as not coachable – fits & starts on progress – but when I looked at where I’ve come, I can tell it works. This year, I’ve experienced over 50% growth – and with that growth came some confidence… confidence to finally go after what I know I should have done – we’ve added a flat-fee-only option to our offerings, and that’s ALL I’ll be targeting for 2014 and beyond. With that under our belts, I can foresee another 50% growth year for each of the next 2 years!

Mind over matter, right? Sometimes, that’s easier said than done. When we’re faced with a laundry list of to-dos and with not enough time in the day, it can be easier to distract ourselves and push things off to the next day. And when more items get added to our list, it becomes overwhelming, and we continue to procrastinate even more. A vicious cycle, but one that can be overcome. That’s the good news!
